African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana)
Peacefully drinking their fill. In July 2016 tourists on the Namibian side of the Okavango River had the nightmare of helplessly observing a very different outcome. On the Angolan side of the river, about 150 meters away and in broad daylight, 5 poachers with AK-47s and grenades attacked a herd of 40 drinking elephants.
